Paper Scarecrow

Supplies Needed:

Small Brown Paper Bags
Medium-Sized Brown Paper Bags
Construction Paper (multiple colors)
Markers
Crayons
Newspapers
Tape

Step-by-Step Instructions

Make the body of your scarecrow by stuffing the medium-sized paperbag with crumpled newspaper. Fold the top of the bag closed and tape it closed. Make your scarecrow a head by filling the small bag 2/3 full with crumpled paper. Twist the opening of the bag and tape it closed. Make a hole in the end of the scarecrow's body and insert the twisted end of the head into it. Secure the head to the body using tape. Cut legs and arms from a seperate brown bag. Tape the limbs to the scarecrows body. Create "hay" for your scarecrow's collar by cutting a brown paper bag into thin srtips (2 to 3 inches long). Make his hair in the same fashion, remembering to make the hair strips a bit longer than his collar strips. Glue the strips to his collar, wrists, and ankles (2-3 inch strips). Glue the longer strips to the top of his head. Finish decorating your scarecrow using markers, crayons, and construction paper (eyes, mouth, nose, patches on his clothes, etc).

This scarecrow activity is a great family project for Thanksgiving. It's also a great way to celebrate the first day of fall.
